Snowy Days & Friday

(Y'know... like The Carpenters' "Rainy Days & Mondays", which I won $500 singing at karaoke in Lawrence wayyyyyy back in the day.)

We're under a "blizzard warning", according to our weather radio at home. Yeah, whatever. I'll believe it when I see it. I love snow. I love looking out into the city and seeing a fresh blanket of snow on the ground. Everything, if only for a brief moment in time, looks clean and fresh... as though the dirt (literally) of the world had been made clean.

When I was a kid, I remember playing with my neighborhood friends out in the snow. Back then it seemed like we had major snowstorms every Winter. I remember one particular storm leaving a foot or more of snow, and then a couple of days later more snow came. My friends and I were out playing in the snow and we ended up on my parents' deck behind the house. I don't remember whose idea it was, but we ended up jumping off the deck into the snow below. It seemed like it was really far down, but it was actually only about 7 feet down or so. But I remember standing on the outside endge of the deck railings and holding on for dear life because I was scared. And then I just let go. I let go and leaned backward and let the snow catch me. (I wouldn't do that these days because no matter how much snow we were to get, my fat butt would sink all the way to the bottom of it and I'd probably end up breaking something important.)

Nothing any season has to offer makes me happier than snow. Watching the snow fall outside the window is so peaceful, or catching a snowflake on your hand and closely examining it. There is something about snow that makes me so darn happy. I honestly don't understand it myself. It makes my hubby crazy (he doesn't care for snow) and the boys think I'm nuts because of how happy it makes me.

The dog loves the snow, too. When there's snow outside, he wants to go out 400 times an hour to play in it. He runs with his nose down in the snow like a bulldozer. He loves it! And I seem to be the only one that thorougly enjoys watching him play in it. I'm all, "Come over here and watch him!" And they're all, "Whatevs, mom... You're crazy." So what if I am!

The plan for the evening is (1) enjoy the falling snow, (2) make fan-freaking-tastic salsa, (3) clip my toenails (I kicked my desk right after lunch today and my nail has been snagging inside my sock all afternoon... SO annoying), and (4) watch the KU game. Then tomorrow (since we'll hopefully be snowed in) we can finish painting and then I can RE-paint the basement walls.

Someone needs to come look at my house and then go to Hobby Lobby with me to pick out some trinkets n' crap to decorate with. I'm no darn good at that. I can pick out paint colors and slap the color onto the walls, and I can pick out fabrics and window treatments, but I absolutely cannot figure out the rest of the whole decorating thing. Most of my "trinkets" are crap... total crap. It's like I let my kids pick the stuff out. Bleh! Time for grown-up decorations. I'm allowing a $100 budget for "trinkets". Hobby Lobby, World Market, Michaels, or anywhere else. I'm also willing to MAKE these "trinkets" if I need to. I'm actually going to be hot gluing on some dangly trim pieces onto our current lamp shades to add some umpf. And I have the fabric and will probably recover my cedar cabinet this weekend. It's those danged "TRINKETS"!!! Going with a fleur de lis type theme, too... or whatever the heck goes with my new area rugs and drapes. Aqua blue and browns and tans. (Quite the change from dark yellows, golds and reds!)

Wow, I'm ready to get the heck out of this stuffy office and be home with the fam.

Hope your weekend is swell!
